Dragon’s Dogma 2 – Can You Change the Difficulty?

Can you change the difficulty in Dragon’s Dogma 2? Included are details on the game’s various game modes, new difficulty settings added in the sequel, and other information based on official sources.

No adjustable difficulty

In contrast to its predecessors, Dragon’s Dogma and Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, Dragon’s Dogma 2 does not feature selectable difficulty modes like Easy, Normal, and Hard. As a result, all players will commence their first playthrough on the game’s default difficulty setting.

Begin New Game Plus (NG+) to play on “hard” mode

In Dragon’s Dogma 2, the equivalent of a hard mode is accessible exclusively through New Game Plus (+), introducing tougher adversaries that heighten the overall challenge for players seeking a more demanding gameplay experience beyond the default difficulty level.

“Optimized” and “role-playing” difficulty settings added

According to an interview with game director Hideaki Itsuno featured on the Reno Gazette Journal website, Dragon’s Dogma 2 will introduce an innovative “optimized” difficulty system that dynamically adjusts the game’s challenge level based on the player’s performance, offering a tailored experience. Additionally, a new game setting will cater to players who enjoy role-playing their characters within a party, enhancing the immersive role-playing elements within the highly anticipated open-world fantasy title.

In terms of the difficulty as an action game, one change that we’ve made is putting in a system that optimizes the difficulty according to the player. We also feel that we’ve successfully added some difficulty that people will enjoy as far as the role-playing elements that require you to play a character within a specific role.
